Bangladesh cricket team is all set to fly to Colombo on July 20 to play the upcoming bilateral away series against the hosts Sri Lanka, just five days before the start of the series. The Tigers squad will be announced for the three-match ODI series against the Islanders on July 16 and will get opportunity to practice for two days, the practice sessions will be held at the CCB Academy and Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on July 18.

BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu made the revelation to The Independent at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur yesterday.

Nannu also informed that the Bangladesh team will play a one-off practice match against Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) XI before heading to the main series, which comprises of only three one-day international matches. All the matches of the series will be played at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.

“We have sent Bangladesh team for Sri Lanka tour on July 20 so that they can get an opportunity to hold some practice sessions there to dovetail with the pitch and condition,” said Minhajul Abedin Nannu. “The team will play a practice match though we had no schedule of playing any practice match in the initial period because we had plan to go there for only main matches of the series,” Nannul told this reporter.

“As of now we’re preparing the squad for the three-match short series. Hopefully the final squad might be announced from the board on July 16 or 17,” he added.

Like Khaled Mahmud Sujon, Minhajul Abedin also said that there is no possibility of bringing any big change in the team.

One or two cricketers from the Bangladesh World Cup squad might be rested for this Sri Lanka series. But Nannu informed that they are yet to get any such application from the players through the board while he was asked.

Having no head coach of the team at this moment, there is less or remote possibility of getting a new head coach for the team ahead of the imminent series. The board might be handed over the new responsibility of the team to BCB director and former captain Khaled Mahmud Sujon as the acting head coach.

Even Sujon was seen working with Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal, who has passed a bad patch throughout the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup that drew huge flays from Tigers fans across the world, for so long at the indoor stadium of the SBNCS yesterday.
