Time to be tough about bail in women, child repression cases: Minister

Law Minister Anisul Huq on Wednesday urged all to be careful so that those involved with women, child repression as well as rape incidents do not get bail from higher court.

He made the call at a function arranged marking the handover of keys of new vehicles at the Registration Directorate.

The minister further said, “Such cases are hardly delayed at the judicial courts once investigation reports are submitted. You’ve seen the Nusrat case… I can assure that the trial of such cases would be done speedily once the charge-sheets are received.”

The Law Minister also said it is the discretion of judges to grant or not to grant bail to anyone.

But the discretion must be used legally. “Now it’s time to be tough the way crimes are committed and they (perpetrators) should be there in prison,” he said.
