Reshuffle in cabinet likely tomorrow

SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT, Dhaka
Reshuffle in cabinet likely tomorrow

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to expand and reshuffle her Cabinet tomorrow  (Saturday) for the second time. Some new faces would be included in the Cabinet as minister and state minister, while existing ministers and state ministers are likely to have their ministries and divisions changed to tone up the administration.

According to sources, Imran Ahmed, state minister for expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment, is likely to be promoted to the post of a full minister.

Fazilutunnesa Indira, women affairs secretary of the Awami League (AL), will become a new state minister in Hasina’s cabinet.

At the same time, some state ministers are likely to be changed to induct new faces in the cabinet.

Cabinet secretary M Shafiul Alam said the new ministers and state ministers are expected to be sworn in at Banga Bhaban around 7.30pm on Saturday.

Party sources say that some leaders of the ruling party are expecting to become ministers and state ministers.

Earlier, on May 19, Sheikh Hasina had reshuffled the Cabinet by curtailing the powers of two ministers and shifting one

state minister from one ministry to another.
After coming to the power in a landslide victory, the Awami League formed a 47-member cabinet, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on January 7 this year.
In the cabinet, 25 ministers, 19 state ministers and three deputy ministers were given different ministerial portfolios and divisions.
