Tk 4,250cr earned through fish export from Khulna

The government earned Tk 4,250 crore through exporting 73,171 metric tons frozen shrimp and white fish from Khulna district in 2017-2018 fiscal year. More than 62,229 metric tons of fishes were produced in Khulna district in 2018-2019 fiscal year against the demand for 55,462 metric tons, said district fisheries officer Abu Sayeed while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the National Fisheries Week-2019 here yesterday.

Khulna city mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque addressed the function as the chief guest with acting deputy commissioner of Khulna Md Iqbal Hossain in the chair.

Terming shrimp farming and its export is a special side of the country’s economy, mayor Khaleque said fish fries are disappearing in the Sundarbans and its adjacent rivers because of using nets with poison.
