Theatre troupe Tarua will stage two consecutive shows of its maiden theatrical production titled ‘Let Me Out’ today and tomorrow at the Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mahila Samiti in Baily Road area.

Based on a true event that happened almost a hundred years ago in Los Angeles, USA, the play is directed by Bakar Bakul.

Inspired from several true crime, biography and factual texts of regarding police misconduct, political corruption and state brutalities in USA, Runa Kanchan has written the play.

In the play, a single mother named Christine Collins lost her nine year old son Walter. She gives allegation against the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) for its incompetence, corruption and the extrajudicial punishment meted out by its notorious ‘Gun Squad’.

Several months after Walter’s disappearance and Christine being devastated by administrative obstruction, the police tells Christine that the boy has been found alive, believing that positive publicity will contradict the recent criticism of the department.

Christine, who is later on labelled as a mad woman for not accepting the boy found by the police department as her son, continues to fight against police misconduct and political bankruptcy.

The cast of the play includes Runa Kanchon, Sohel Mandol, Ishtiak Hossain, Javed Jimi, and Tahsin Ahmed among others.

Where: Mahila Samiti, Baily Road.

When: 7pm, today and tomorrow.
