Staff Reporter, Dhaka
All private TV channels to use Bangabandhu Satellite-1 soon

All local private television channels in the country will be operational through the Bangabandhu Satellite-1 very soon. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Association of Television Channel Owners (ATCO) at a hotel in Gulshan area in the capital yesterday.

After the meeting, Anjan Chowdhury, managing director of Maasranga Television and also ATCO president, said, “Bangabandhu Satellite-1 is our satellite, so we should use it first.”

He also said, “There has been progress in solving various problems in this sector, including clean feeds.

The information ministry is cooperating in this respect.”

Chowdhury said efforts are going on to make channels work as pay channels to reduce the pressure on advertising. As a result, these channels will get money from cable operators.

The ATCO members also discussed various issues and measures to develop the television industry.

Chowdhury added that it has not yet been decided as to which company will be working for TRP. A meeting will be held in this connection with the cable operators.

Ekattor TV managing director Mozammel Babu, Desh TV deputy managing director Arif Hasan, DBC news chairman Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and others were present at the meeting.
