Shakib Al Hasan, Test and Twenty20 skipper of Bangladesh billed the loss to Afghanistan in Test as disappointing one, saying that they have to emphasis more on producing quality players unless such type of result will come now and then.

Shakib also said that they have to make habituation to play better cricket consistently, for this, they have to produce quality players and then work for the development of its standard.

“It’s really tough to accept the way we lost the Test against Afghanistan. It’s obviously disappointing for us,” said Shakib Al Hasan.

“We had four wickets in hand when we have an hour to play.

I can tell about me, but it’s difficult for me to say about others. I dismissed in the very first ball. Then the act became more difficult for the others. The responsibility fallen on me. But I could not do it having dismissed early,” Shakib told media after losing the Test against Afghanistan at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram yesterday.

“It would be better for me if I would not cut the shot. Actually it was not playable. But I played the shot that put the team under mounting pressure. As I was in wickets, I should play the main role. But as I was out in the first ball, the act has been tough for the team,” he added.

“If we want to play better cricket consistently, we have to improve the standard and quality of the players further. We have to do better result taking advantage and favour if we have not have those things.”

Shakib gave a recipe of cricket, which can help Bangladesh cricket to grow and develop further. According to Shakib, they have to cull players from the domestic circuit and fix them for which format they have been chose and then nurse them as per the formats.

Citing the names of Dhaka Premier League (DPL), Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and National Cricket League (NCL), he said that they have to move forward with a big and comprehensive plan.

He also said that the cache they have pick players from there and groom them through playing domestic and other international matches.

“What I earlier told that we have to understand three formats and fix the players who are the best option for which formats of games. And they have to stick to that format. It’s right that we have not much more scope for players’ selection because if you look at our premier league, only a set-up is there, where some few matches are held. It’ll be at best 10-11 matches. We’ve to select our players to see those. We’ve a Twenty20 tournament from where we have to choose our players. We’ve also NCL. We’ve to select players from these three formats of games,” the skipper said.

“I don’t think that we have options enough. To be honest, we’ve to select the players for which format they are selected have ability to deserve that format. Actually we have to move forward with a big and comprehensive plan unless such type of result will come now and then,” he also said.

He said in presentation ceremony that they failed to produce pressure on the visitors rather they themselves fall under mounting pressure from them. He said that they should forget the loss and focus on next T20 games

“I think it’s combination of application of our batsmen and Afghanistan bowling. We need to do a lot of hard work to become a good, consistent team,’ he said.

“After playing for 20 years, we cannot say it’s a build-up process. We’re playing a Test after quite some time but credit goes to Afghanistan. We need to forget this match as soon as possible and focus on the T20 series,” he said.

“Afghanistan are a very good team in that format. With the [T20] World Cup coming up next year, we need to focus on T20s,” he added.

However, Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan praised his teammates and coaching staff behind their awe-some success against Bangladesh, stating that they played a terrific job for the triumph.

“The credit goes to the players, supporting staff. The camp we had in Abu Dhabi was in the hottest weather I have ever been and then you come here; compared to that, it looked easier out here. It was a total team effort,” said Rashid Khan, who was adjudged player of the match for his outstanding all-round display.

“The youngsters are learning very quickly, and especially we have a good four-day structure at home. That's the best thing done by the cricket board. The challenge was for the batsmen to stay at the pitch for as long as possible and they did a terrific job,” Rashid told during the presentation ceremony after their second victory in 2019.

“One more thing. The legend Nabi, who has played his last Test, has helped me and other young spinners a lot. I wish him all the best and I want to dedicate my,” he added.
