Facebook to appoint representative in Bangladesh

Social giant Facebook is going to appoint a representative in Bangladesh to settle any dispute or any other pending issues with the government. During a meeting with the Post and Telecommunication Minister Mostafa Jabbar, an eight member delegation of Facebook yesterday informed that.

The meeting took place at the office of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC). Facebook has agreed to abide by all the existing acts including the Digital Security Act of Bangladesh. It also has agreed to value Bangladesh’s culture, value and principles and respond to Bangladesh government’s request to consider removing any content that goes against the country’s value, culture and principles.  The social media giant will appoint a reseller to give proper tax and VAT to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and has pledged to make proper usage of the Bengali language in its engine. In the meeting Mostafa Jabbar urged Faceebook delegation to help the Bangladesh government in stopping question paper leakage, pornography, and spread of rumor. He also urged the social media giant to hasten its response time. The meeting lasted for four hours.

From Bangladesh, BTRC Chairman Jahrul Haque, Iqbal Mahmud, DG of Bangladesh Telecommunication Company Limited (BTCL), cyber security expert Tareq M Barkatullah and officials of from RAB and NBR were present.

From Facebook, head of safety of South Asia Bikram Sen led the delegation.
