A Gaibandha court yesterday sentenced seven people including a former Jatiya Party MP to death for their roles in killing Awami League lawmaker from Gaibandha-1 Manjurul Islam Liton.

Detectives arrested Quader, a former Jatiya Party MP from the same constituency, on February 21, 2017 from his home. Five days later, he confessed before a court to his involvement in the killing. Based on information provided by Quader, police conducted a raid on his house at Pashchim Chhaparhati village in Sundarganj upazila and seized a pistol, a magazine and six bullets. An arms case was filed in this connection.  On April 30, 2017, police submitted a charge-sheet against eight people, including Quader.
