BNP threatens to launch oust-govt movement

BNP senior leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Friday warned that their party will launch a one-point oust-government movement if its chairperson Khaleda Zia is not freed on bail on December 5 next.

“If we see Khaleda Zia is not freed on bail on December 5, we’ll understand it might not be possible to free our leader (on bail) due to the Prime Minister’s interference,” he said.

Speaking at a discussion, the BNP leader further said, “We would like to say we’ll wage a one-point movement to oust the autocratic and fascist regime of Sheikh Hasina if Khaleda Zia is not released on December 5.”

Charfashion-Manpura Jatiyatabadi Forum, Dhaka organised the programme at the Jatiya Press Club demanding the withdrawal of he ‘false’ cases filed against Khaleda Zia and its acting chairman Tarique Rahman.

Mosharraf, a BNP standing committee member, said they will not have any alternative to movement if they do not get justice from the apex court.

On Thursday, the Appellate Division deferred the hearing on Khaleda’s bail petition in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case till December 5.

The court also asked the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University to place Khaleda’s health reports before it by December 5.

Mosharraf urged BNP leaders and activists to get ready to have Khaleda freed from jail through a movement.

He criticised the government for taking steps to hike in power tariffs, saying the main motive behind the move is to plunder public money.

“The government has increased power tariffs eight times since it came to power. This time they proposed hiking the power price by 23.27 percent to plunder public money and inflict sufferings on people,” the BNP leader observed.

He also alleged that the ruling party business syndicate is making quick buck by raising the prices of essential items through creating artificial crisis due to the government’s poor market monitoring system.
