Gala opening to spellbind spectators

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and his ex-girlfriend Katrina Kaif will come to the gala opening ceremony of the ensuing Bangabandhu-Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) to enthrall the local spectators.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director and BPL Governing Council Chairman Sheikh Sohel confirmed their engagement in the upcoming BPL to media yesterday.

Apart from them, a host of Mumbai actors and actresses, including John Abraham, Tiger Shroff, Neha Dhupia and co will mesmerise the audiences with their captivating stage performance.

Popular local vocalist Momtaz Begum will also lend her voice to fascinate the audience with melodious folk songs.

“We have meanwhile confirmed Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif along with a string of Mumbai actors and actresses including John Abraham, Tiger Shroff and Neha Dhupia. They will perform on stage in the opening ceremony of the Bangabandhu-BPL,” said Sheikh Sohel.

“We’ve confirmed Momtaz (Begum) Apa from Bangladesh.

She will join hands with two renowned music maestro of the world to lend their voice to enchant the audience with her melodious music and songs. But I couldn’t mention their names before striking the final contract with them,” Sohel said.

“But I hope we could be confirmed them within the next one-two days. And then, we will disclose their names” he added.

The BCB previously announced they will arrange BPL opening ceremony in such a way which will be the best and gorgeous in its history. As per the schedule, this year the opening ceremony of the special BPL will be held December 8, three days before the kick-off of the Twenty20 blockbuster cricket tournament.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the ceremony of the domestic extravaganza event as the chief guest. The board has planned to erect a temporary structure in front of the president box of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) from where the chief guest can go into the general spectators and press button to inaugurate the gala opening of the BPL.  

Sohel informed that the duration of the gala opening of the special BPL will be six-hour-long, spanning from 4:00pm to 10:00pm.

The gates of the Home of Cricket will open for the general audience at 3:00pm and close it at 5:00pm. The programme will open with the performance of the local artistes and end with spectacular pyrotechnics.

The ticket price will be maximum Tk 10,000.00. But there are tickets for Tk 5,000.00 and Tk. 1,000.00.

The BPL Governing Council visited the spot of the stage for the BPL opening after holding a closed-door meeting on Saturday. They are scheduled to sit again on Sunday (yesterday). But Sohel said they are yet to finalise the schedule of the opening ceremony.  

In addition, the Bangabandhu-BPL will roll onto the ground on December 11 with the match of Chattogram Challengers and Sylhet Thunders. Cumilla Warriors will lock horns with Rangpur Rangers in the second fixture of the opening day.
