Can’t blame wicket if you bat without plan: Kapali

Rajshahi Royals all-rounder Alok Kapali played down any problem of wicket after the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League saw run-draught in the last two days following some big-scoring affair in the first day.

The last two days of the tournament saw two team’s score below 100 and no team could get past 150 runs mark. That brought the question of the standard of the wicket to the fore once again.

Sylhet Thunder were bowled out for 91 runs in their game against Rajshahi Royals yesterday, to further fuel the question.

Kapali who claimed 3-16 with his leg-spin to dismantle Sylhet Thunder ruled out any demon of wicket, saying that it’s the batsmen who couldn’t apply them properly.

“The way they [Sylhet Thunder] started their innings, they looked all set to amass big score on the board but they couldn’t continue on it.

If you can’t apply yourselves and always are in hurry in T20 cricket, you can’t blame the wicket,” Kapali said here yesterday after the match.

Even though Sylhet were bowled out for 91 in just 15.3 overs, Rajshahi gunned it down with ease, reaching the winning mark of 95-2 in just 10.5 overs.

“But we got to the winning mark in just 10/12 overs,” Kapali said, indicating that there is no reason to blame the wicket.

“If one can play full 20 overs in T20 cricket, there is always chance to score 170/180.”

“The wicket was good today. I thought they [Sylhet] would end up scoring 180. Wicket is still good.”

It was Rajshahi Royals second successive victory in a row, having defeated favourite Dhaka Platoon by nine wickets in the first match.

Kapali, the former national player, said this victory would enhance their confidence to a great degree.

“This victory will enhance the confidence. In the last two matches, most of us didn’t get the opportunity to bat but everyone is ready to bat when the opportunity will come. Everyone is desperate to do well. Our team is a confident team,” he remarked.

Kapali though was adjudged man of the match for his bowling performance, he termed himself as batsman firstly, stating, “In the last Dhaka Premier League, we did well with bowling but I am mainly a batsman first. When I bowl, it try to thrive in bowling also.”

Kapali also heaped shower of praise on captain Andre Russell, a West Indies all-rounder, who is leading any side outside of his country for the first time.

“Russell is very much involved with the team. I like his attitude. When anyone is bowling, he himself is talking with the bowler and set the field according to the desire of the bowler,” he said.
