Jospin blasted a hat-trick as Burundi came from behind to down Mauritius by 4-1 in their opening match of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup International Football tournament at Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital yesterday. Both the African sides played their first match with Burundi enjoyed lion’s share of exchanges.

The battle of the two neighbouring countries produced exciting moves right after the kick off with Burundi drawing the first focus on second minute and Mauritius responded very quick and strongly to take lead through Adrien Francois.  Mauritius’s Francois stunned Burundi with a nice finish from inside the area off a captain Balisson’s left side cross on third minute (1-0).

But the lead of Mauritius did not last  long when Burundi made a full-bodied bounce back to go 2-1 lead in the first half with a class finisher of Jospin on 28th minute.

Burundi despite conceding a surprising early goal were not demoralized, when Jospin opened his account on 28th minute to level the margin for his team with superb finish off a left side cross from Benjamin when the forward was very swift to rush inside the area to perfect his right footer (1-1). After equalizing the margin Burundi went more hard line, though the match was going very fast with offensive attitude from both sides.

Burundi went ahead on 41st minute with a class goal from Asman free kick from some five yards from the left corner of the box went into the top corner of far post (2-1). The second half was also going with both sides were in attacking mood and Burundi were far better in finishing when Mauritius could score more goals but unfortunately failed to make good finish. Burundi made their lead 3-1 inside three minutes of the second half when Jospin doubled his tally make a cool finish with a volley being marked by a defender (3-1).

Jospin, the speedy forward completed his hat-trick in style when the tall forward sprinted well after receiving a forward pass and left behind the markers to have the advancing goalkeeper one on one lobbed the ball into post over him (keeper) on 86th minute (4-1). In the post reaction, Burundi coach Bipfubusa Joslin expecting to play better match by match when he said, “We are tired and hopefully will play better football in next matches. We played without any ball practice in Dhaka.” Mauritius coach Francisco Filho said that they would bounce back in the next game with winning the match against Seychelles, “We believe that we have ability to beat Seychelles and we will bounce back in the next team.
