Submit report on traffic monitoring system: HC

The High Court on Monday directed the authorities concerned to submit a report on the mismanagement of traffic signal monitoring system in the capital within 30 days.

The court also issued a rule seeking explanation as to why the inaction of the relevant authorities over traffic signal light mismanagement should not be declared illegal.

Secretaries to Home Ministry, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry, Inspector General of Police, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner, Commissioner of Traffic, CEO of two Dhaka City Corporations (DSCC, DNCC) were asked to respond to the rule within four weeks.

The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by advocate Manoj Kumar Bhowmik.

The HC also directed the ministry concerned to form a policy on traffic signal and asked the Additional Commissioner of Traffic to submit a progress report in this regard within 30 days.

Mismanagement in traffic signal system is the reason behind many road accidents, said Monoz Kumar.
