‘Rebel Voice’ of theatre Ishrat Nishat no more

Theatre artiste and director Ishrat Nishat is no more. She breathed her last on Sunday night around 11pm after suffering a massive cardiac arrest at her sister’s house in the capital’s Gulshan. She was 56.

Ishrat Nishat, the daughter of late actress Nazma Anwar, was known as ‘Rebel Voice’ in the country’s theatre arena. She was involved with theatre troupe Desh Natak. She directed theatrical play ‘Arikkhita’ and also acted in Nasiruddin Yousuff’s film ‘Alpha’.

Nishat’s body was taken to Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) yesterday noon for paying last tribute to the deceased. State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid, former cultural minister Asaduzzaman Noor, BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky, eminent theatre personalities Mamunur Rashid, M Hamid, Golam Kuddus, among others, paid tribute to the late actress-director.

After namaj-e-janaza on the premises of Dhaka University central mosque, Nishat was buried at Banani graveyard in the capital.
