Shabana Azmi in ICU but doing well: Javed Akhtar

fter Saturday afternoon's horrific accident, an injured Shabana Azmi was shifted to Mumbai's Kokilaben Hospital for treatment. Now, speaking to a website, Javed Akhtar has confirmed that Shabana is doing better and is stable.

Javed Akhtar was also with Shabana when the accident happened. The police reported that Shabana's SUV was severely damaged after it rammed into a truck near the Khalapur toll plaza. The incident took place on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, around 60 km from Mumbai. While Shabana Azmi and her driver were both left severely injured, Javed Akhtar was unharmed in the accident. They were first rushed to the MGM hospital in Panvel and later moved to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in suburban Mumbai.

Speaking to a website on Sunday, Javed Akhtar confirmed that Shabana Azmi is doing better. He also added that several tests have come out positive and nothing looks very serious. "Don’t worry. She is in the ICU but all the scan reports are positive. It seems there’s no serious harm done," Javed Akhtar was quoted.

In addition, actor Satish Kaushik too visited Shabana Azmi at Kokilaben and that she was doing better. "Shabanaji is under strict observation. But she is doing much much better than yesterday. Prayers for her speedy recovery," he told IANS.
