‘BCL men’ beat 4 students at DU

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men have allegedly beaten up four students of Dhaka University (DU) night suspecting them of being involved with the politics of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir.

The victims are Sanwar Hossain, a 3rd year student of Political Science department; Md Mukim Chowdhury, a 2nd year student of Tourism and Hospitality Management department; Minhaz Uddin, a 2nd year student of Islamic History and Culture department; and Afsar Uddin, a 2nd year student of Arabic department.

Campus sources said BCL leaders and activists called the four students to the guest room of Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall on Tuesday night and tortured them from 11pm till 1am on Wednesday suspecting their link to Shibir.

Later, the victims were handed over to Shahbagh Police Station around 3am.

Meanwhile, police released them on Wednesday afternoon after primary investigation.

DU unit BCL General Secretary Saddam Hussain said he heard about the incident. “We don’t support this type of assault on anyone.”

Meanwhile, the injured students told reporters that they have no link with Shibir.
