Winning Bangladesh U19 national team captain Akbar Ali has accorded an enthusiastic welcome from a huge crowd of adoring fans at his own hometown in Rangpur. A large number of passionate crowd chanting “Akbar Bhai’ when his motorcade reached Town Hall area, a local place in Rangpur, at around 3.30pm.

The U19 skipper was also greeted with a bouquet in a public reception organised by the Rangpur district administration and district sports association in which Rangpur DC, city mayor, additional police commissioner of Rangpur were also present. While interacting with the fans before reaching his home at West Jummapara in the city, a very much emotional Akbar Ali said that “I came to this position with the blessings and love of all. We’ll take on the field again with firm determination to achieve more success for the country.”

Earlier yesterday, Akbar Ali left Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur premises at the early morning and reached Syedpur Airport by a Novoair flight at around 12.30pm.

World Cup triumphant Bangladesh Under-19 cricket team returned home from South Africa Wednesday after winning the long-cherished ICC U-19 World Cup crown for the first time in Bangladesh cricket history.

Akbar Ali before leaving for Rangpur yesterday said he dealt with the opposition players with smile.

Akbar’s smile became a trademark sign during the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup as he was seen smiling when the opponents sledged him vehemently, specially in the high-octane final against India.

As he played a masterful 43 not out under tremendous pressure, the Indian players tried to distract him from his concentration with sledging, but in reply he just smiled and thereby conquered them.

Akbar, also a book-worm cricketer, disclosed that he read in some books that smile is the best revenge when dealing with opposition players’ tantrum.

“I read somewhere smiling is the best revenge. The more they sledge us I try to laugh and give them opposite effect” Akbar said.

Akbar also said he tried to keep his excitement in check to allow other players to express their feelings.

”Everybody gets excited, but I try to show my excitement in the field as less as possible. I try to hide my feelings in front of everybody,” he added.

However, he said both Bangladesh and Indian players had good times after the World Cup final was over in South Africa.

“When we returned to the hotel, we stayed two day closely with the Indian players at the hotel and we gossiped a lot with them. India players and coach appreciated us,” he concluded.
