Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo stressed the need of playing more on good domestic wickets from where bowler and batsman can learn much and apply those lessons on overseas conditions to fare well.

Showing his own arguments to play at least two seamers, Domingo also said they will have information of the pace bowlers when they will play them at domestic conditions and could use them against top-flight teams on foreign conditions.

He thought you will not always get any good yield playing on turning wickets that could be given a wrong message to the bowlers irrespective of pacers and spinners. “For Bangladesh to improve in Test cricket, we can’t play on raging turners all the time because then you will only pick one seamer and then you go to India, South Africa or Australia you start wondering who is your three seamers or who is our four seamers because they haven’t played any cricket. It’s a fine balance,” said Russell Domingo.

“We know that the strength of the team is to play on spinning wickets and particularly against teams like Australia, New Zealand or South Africa, you want your wickets to spin but we have also got to teach ourselves and learn how to play on good wickets so that the seamers are in the game and batsman can bat to score big runs,” Domingo told reporters.

“If they play on tough wickets, half the batsmen will get big hundreds and also puts the bowlers into a false sense of security because the wicket is spinning. They think they are good bowler because the wicket is spinning and the seamers think they are bad cause the wicket is not seaming,” he added.

“It's a tough thing for the team to come to grips with. I am strong on the fact that we have to play on good wickets so that we can develop our game not only at home but outside of Bangladesh as well. If we keep playing on spinning wickets, wherever we go, we have no chance.”

He said they will use two pacers until they find any player like Mohammad Saifuddin and Soumya Sarkar, who can bat at No 7 and bowl 10-15 overs a day of seam for them.

“We’re probably going to go with two seamers. I don’t think it benefits our team to play with just one seamer. Playing three seamers would be perfect if we had a guy who could also bat at number seven. Unfortunately, we don’t have that guy at the moment,” he opined.

“If we go with three seamers it makes our batting light cause we might be playing two spinners as well. Until we find that Saifuddin is fit or find that guy who can bat at number seven and bowl 10-15 overs a day of seam for us, we would probably start with two seamers,” he singled out.
