Ending the six-Test-match losing streak, Bangladesh national team Test skipper Mominul Haque has said that the victory against Zimbabwe would help boost players’ confidence and carry that momentum forward into the next Test assignment against Pakistan, to be played in Karachi from April 5.

The Tigers’ produced a flawless all-round show against Zimbabwe to win the one-off Test by an innings and 106 runs which the skipper describes as a much-needed victory considering the deflated Tigers’ recent below-par performance in red ball cricket.

Talking about the victory, Mominul said that, “Obviously, the entire team will bring their confidence back from this win and I think the momentum will lead us into the Pakistan Test.”

Prior to this emphatic win, Bangladesh suffered innings defeat in the last three Test matches (two against India and one against Pakistan) under the leadership of Mominul Haque.

With the given responsibility and having led the national side only in four Test matches including the Dhaka Test, Mominul, regarding his new experience, pointed out that he had never felt the extra pressure of captaincy and still focusing to improve both as a player and captain.

“I always hope for something big and never been under pressure a lot. Although it was a bad start for me as a captain but I’m not thinking too much of it because it happens in general.

Again, the scenario will gradually change when things will turn out in favour of you. So, I think it’s more important to start improving from here on,” Mominul told reporters at the post match press conference at SBNCS media block yesterday.

“Now I’m looking forward to the next series how I and my team will perform against Pakistan. Being a captain and as a player how much I learned from all the previous mistakes is quite significant as well” Mominul further added.

When asked whether playing on such wickets (Mirpur wicket) or mindset affects players’ home and away performances, Mominul replied, cricket is all about

setting the mindset which plays 80-90 per cent role and makes the difference on player’s individual performance.

“When I took over the responsibility from the India series, I’ve been receiving hundred percent effort from the senior players. So, far I am pretty happy with the senior players I have in the side. They always help me both on and off the field,” Mominul said of senior players’ contributing and acting as supporting hands behind his leadership role.
