Coronavirus: Decision on educational institutions as per expert advice

Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni yesterday said the decision to shut down educational institutions in order to curb the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country would be taken after consultation with experts.

“No situation has been created yet to shut down educational institutions, as per the opinion of the IEDCR.

The education ministry will take necessary measures based on the advice of experts,” she said while inaugurating a foundation course as the chief guest at the National Academy for Educational Management (NAEM) in the capital.

Ever since three Bangladeshis tested positive for COVID-19 in the country, guardians have been worried

about sending their children to school and other educational institutions.

With the government itself advising people to avoid public gatherings, guardians are hesitant to send their wards to school and college.

Dipu Moni said: “We have sent the necessary directives to all educational institutions to create awareness in this regard.” The minister urged guardians not to panic, as everyone’s cooperation was necessary to combat COVID-19.

Soon after the news was reported by different media outlets, the guardians expressed apprehension about sending their children to school. Sources said some parents were not sending their wards to school due to fear of the new coronavirus.
