United efforts needed to create awareness on climate change

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin yesterday urged all to work together to create awareness about climate change. He made the call while speaking as chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of ‘Climate Bus’ operation in the capital.

The minister said the ‘Climate Bus’ campaign is an important part of the celebration of birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s innovative initiative under Bangladesh Climate Change Trust (BCCT) is being executed at a cost of Taka 1.50 crore under the project titled Implementation of the Branding Plan on ‘Climate Change Trust Fund Formation’. Shahab said, through this bus, students will be informed about environment and climate change. This special bus has been prepared with digital LED display, mobile 3D cinema system, interactive kiosks, solar panels for green energy, archives containing information on WiFi and climate change, he added.

The minister said awareness programmes on environment and climate change will be broadcast nationwide through this Climate Bus.

The government is committed to tackling the harmful effects of climate change and it has prepared climate change strategies and action plans to address the risks posed by climate change, he added.

The Climate Trust Fund is being used to enhance the capacity of the local people and to develop and expand technology to tolerate climate change impacts by taking various projects to tackle climate change risks, said the minister.
