As a token of friendly gesture, the Chinese government will send medical supplies, including test kits, personal protection equipment (PPE), and other materials, to Bangladesh to battle the coronavirus pandemic. On Thursday, sources in the Chinese embassy in Dhaka said the supply would include 10,000 test kits, 10,000 PPE, and 1000 infrared thermometers.

The supply would arrive in Dhaka from Kunming, China, through a special aircraft of the Chinese government on March 26, the sources added. Yan Hualong, minister counselor and deputy chief

of mission at the Chinese embassy in Dhaka, told The Independent yesterday: “This is the second batch of our supplies to Bangladesh. Earlier, we gave 500 test kits to Bangladesh.”

He also said that the Chinese government intends to send more materials to Bangladesh in the coming days. “We’ve strong commitment to helping our friends in this situation. We want to build a community of shared future. So, we have to work together,” he added.

In its first batch of supplies provided to Bangladesh, China had sent 500 most advanced medical kits to detect the coronavirus infection.

On March 17, the Chinese embassy in Dhaka said in a statement: “China has decided to donate emergency anti-epidemic medical supplies, including a large number of test kits, to Bangladesh. In curbing the epidemic, China has always been and will be the most reliable partner of Bangladesh.”

The second batch of supplies will arrive in Dhaka tomorrow (Thursday) at a time when Bangladesh needs such materials to stem transmission of the deadly virus.

Earlier, the Bangladesh government  sent some medical equipment, including masks, to China during the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhai City of Hubei province.

Yan Hualong said: “The virus is a common enemy of all. We have to fight against it unitedly. We’re with Bangladesh at this hour of need.”
