Abahani foreign booters being closely monitored

Abahani foreign booters being closely monitored

Abahani Limited, who have already called off their camp and also released all their players following the worldwide outbreak of the deadly coronavirus, are keeping their foreign players under close supervision.

After being released, all the local players have left the club and gone off to their own homes. The five foreign players are in Dhaka, with two of them at the club tent and the remaining three at their apartments.

Abahani manager Sattayajit Das Rupu told The Independent yesterday that they have kept the five foreign players under close watch and arranged residences for three booters in Dhanmondi, adjacent to the club.

“As you know, we’ve already closed the camp and, after closing the camp, released all the players.

All the local booters have already gone to their own homes and we’re having regular communications with them.”

“Of the five foreign players, three foreign players are living with their wives. We’ve arranged separate flats for them. Mailson of Brazil, Edgar Bernhardt of Kyrgyzstan and Alaaeldin Nasr Essa of Egypt are the three foreigners who are living with their wives in Dhanmondi, close to the club. Sunday Chizoba of Nigera and Belfort Kervens Fils of Haiti are staying at the club tent, adjacent to the club’s ground,” Das said to this correspondent.

“Obviously, we’re very careful about them. We’ve been maintaining communications with them every now and then. As of now, they are okay,” Das, himself a former national booter, said in reply to another query.

Meanwhile, after six rounds, the Bangladesh Premier League Football was called off halfway into the ongoing series, and the reigning runners-up Abahani were on top of the points table along with Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club.

The six-time champions—including the first four editions in a row since the Professional Football League was introduced here—Abahani Limited are leading the table with 13 points, of which they have won three and drawn one match.

Abahani, the champions of the Bangladesh Premier League of 2018–19, lost the title to the new powerhouses Bashundhara Kings, but had a tremendous season in the international arena, qualifying in the inter-zonal final of the AFC Cup.

Yet, the indomitable Abahani, in the next season, lost the trophy to a newcomer and had to be satisfied with the runners-up trophy. They could not do well in the AFC Cup this season either, as they could not win any of their home and away matches against the Maldives Team TC Sports Club.

Even at the early stage of this season, Abahani looked as if they were struggling a bit, but bounced back strongly. They thrashed their arch-rivals Mohammedan Sporting Club 4-0 and led the points table jointly with Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club.
