A food distribution programme among 100 transgender people was held on Dhaka Range DIG Office premises at Segunbagicha in the capital on Thursday.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Dhaka range), Habibur Rahman, in collaboration with Uttoran Foundation organised the food distribution programme.

Each person was given rice, pulses, oil, onions, soap and other goods initially while more relief goods will be given to them in phases, said Habibur Rahman.

Transgender communities who survive through alms, giveaways and temporary work, sometimes day jobs, are passing their days in suffering amid the lockdown to prevent spread of coronavirus.

All the rich in the society should come forward during this time of trouble, he said.

Over the past few days, thousands of transgender and bede (a nomadic ethnic group of Bangladesh) communities received food from Uttoran Foundation, he said.

Additional DIGs of Dhaka Range and members of Uttoran Foundation were also present during the programme.
