BNP involves in ‘evil game’ of politics amid Covid-19 crisis: Quader

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said the BNP has got involved in the ‘evil game’ of politics capitalizing on the global coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis.

“After failing in the polls and launching agitation (against government), BNP has now got involved in the evil game of politics capitalizing on the global crisis amid the pandemic Covid-19 outbreak,” he said this afternoon.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, came up with the remark during a virtual media briefing at his official residence in the capital.

Bitterly criticizing the role of BNP during the ongoing coronavirus crisis, the AL general secretary said this party could not give anything to the country and the nation except rhetoric and shouting.

As Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government, along with all stakeholders, is making coordinated efforts to tackle the crisis, Quader said, the BNP can see nothing but political vengeance.

Referring to the BNP secretary general’s recent remarks, he said, “Mirza Fakhrul is frequently giving examples of foreign countries. But in many countries, the opposition political parties stood by the government with
their collected funds to tackle the coronavirus crisis.”

“But people want to know – what you (BNP) have done for them? You are spreading falsehood against the government,” he said, adding, as always, they (BNP) are using ineffective tools against the government to cover their failures.

The AL general secretary issued a note of warning against those trying to leave the capital for home defying the government’s restrictions on travelling before the Eid amid the pandemic COVID-19 outbreak.

He urged the people to help the government in tackling the crisis and stay home.

The minister called upon the industry-owners to pay all dues of the workers and employees of mills and factories across the country before the Eid-ul-Fitr, the greatest religious festival of the Muslims.

“We noticed with grave concern that a boiling situation is prevailing among the workers and employees for their salary and dues.

It would be very unfortunate if they take out to the streets amid the present crisis,” Quader mentioned.

The bridges minister reiterated his government’s tough stance against any anomaly in relief distribution and said Sheikh Hasina’s government remains tough against any sort of irregularities and corruption in relief distribution activities.
