Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal said the Tigers are confident about winning against any opponent.

He insisted that this is the biggest change that Bangladesh cricket came through in the last 10 years.

In a recent video interview with former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar for ESPNcricinfo, Tamim said that Bangladesh team used to know their result even before going the field 10 years ago. But the thing has now changed radically.

“I can tell you that we used to know the result as soon as we left for the field.

The thing was like it six-seven years ago. We used to be happy scoring a fifty or taking three wickets. The ambition of winning a game was far away from our thinking. But the thing is different now,” Tamim said.

“We only have one goal now, and that is to win. When we sit in the dressing room, we know we need to win. Now, we believe that we can win a game. That is the biggest change that Bangladesh cricket got in the last 10 years. Even the fans were distrustful about our chances 10 years ago, but now they believe we have a strong chance,” the southpaw added.

Like other cricket-playing countries, cricket is on hold in Bangladesh as well amid the coronavirus outbreak. But the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is planning to restart training for the national cricketers, according to some recent media reports.

However, the board is yet to officially disclose details about resuming cricketing activities in the country.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Bangladesh’s Pakistan tour for an ODI and a Test has been postponed along with a tour to Ireland and England. There is no information about rescheduling them.

Bangladesh is slated to play a series in Sri Lanka in July-August this year. It is still unclear whether the tour will go as planned. In media interaction in May, BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said they have not rule out the chance of touring Sri Lanka in July.

Sri Lankan national cricket team has recently started training together to resume international cricket soon. England was touring Sri Lanka in March right before the coronavirus situation went downhill. Since then, cricketing activities have been on hold in Sri Lanka.

With the tour of Bangladesh in July, the island nation might see resumption of international cricket return on its soil.

If this tour takes place, it will be Tamim’s first assignment as full-time ODI captain of Bangladesh. He took over the baton from Mashrafe Bin Mortaza earlier this year.
