Budget: Govt allocates Tk 579cr for cultural affairs

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Thursday proposed allocating Tk 579.26 crore for the cultural affairs ministry in the Fiscal Year 2020-2021.

The amount is 0.1 percent of the proposed national budget of Tk 568,000 crore.

In the FY 2019-2020, the actual allocation for the cultural affairs ministry was Tk 500.69 crore in the revised budget and Tk 575.78 crore in the proposed budget.

Finance Minister Kamal said the government is playing an important role in the development of the cultural sector to uphold the country’s heritage and pride in the world.

In this overall budget for culture, the Secretariat department of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs gets an allocation of Tk 385.89 crore, Department of Archaeology and Museum gets Tk 57.7 crore, Department of Archives and Library gets Tk 7.81 crore, Department of Public Libraries gets Tk 103.96 crore and the Copyright Office gets Tk 2.39 crore.
