SPORTS REPORTER, Dhaka
Ruman gets grant from World Archery Federation
Ruman Shana

Bangladeshi number one archer Ruman Shana, one of the 35 archers in the world, got a grant of USD 5000 from World Archery Federation (WAF) to weather the effects of COVID-19 pandemic.

The world archery foundation lent their hands in this crucial time of coronavirus to provide aid to the archers who fell into financial problems due to the worldwide virus infection.

Ruman Shana, the first-ever archer from Bangladesh qualified for the Tokyo Olympic will receive the amount by one week.
Ruman Shana informed The Independent on Wednesday that he applied for the grant in June with the help of the coach Martin Fredric and got confirmation last week.
But the WAF granted the aid with a condition when he will have to spend 50 percent of the amount for the interest of archery and rest of the money he can spend for his own personal requirements, Ruman Shana informed.

The World Archery Federation mobilized a fund worth of USD 1.90 lakh to shoot the troubles of archers and invited applications from the archers across the world in need during coronavirus on condition that he participated in the inter circuit in 2018 and 2019 and wrote a statement on expenditure plan.

A total of 122 archers from across the world applied to get the grant and the WAF made a short list of 40 archers and finally selected 35 archers from 19 countries. Ruman Shana was among one off 35 who fulfilled all the requirements.
Ruman Shana, who is now in his village home in Kushtia said, “Actually it is a great support in this pandemic situation.

We are almost out of action for last few months, so this aid will help a lot.”
“The World Archery Federation directed that we could spend 50 percent amount for our personal needs and rest of the amount should be spent for the activities of archery.”
“I think whenever, we will start our camp and will begin full-fledged training session then I will spend the money for buying equipment,” Ruman Shana replied to a query.
Meanwhile, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Archery Federation (BAF) and the First Vice-president of the Asian Archery Federation (AAF) Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapal told the Independent, “Actually I can’t make any comment on it, I know the World Archery Federation is providing a grant of USD 5000. But I can’t tell how he wants to spend the money, though there are guidelines on expenditure of the amount.”
Chapal also informed that there will be a meeting at the sports ministry tomorrow (Thursday) with the participation of nine federations – Shooting, Swimming, Volleyball, Handball, Archery, Taekwondo and Bangladesh Women’s Sports Association.

“We will have a meeting with the sports minister tomorrow from when and how can we start the training programme with following the rules and regulations of health,” said Chapal.
