Covid-19 cases climb to 6,269 in Khulna

With detection of 261 new more positive cases in the past one day, the total number of COVID-19 infected patients in the division climbed to 6,269, said a COVID-19 quarantine and isolation related daily report on Thursday.

“We received 280 samples at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMC) and other samples in Jashore and Kushtia laboratories in the last 24 hours till this noon and 261 persons have been diagnosed with COVID-19 infection,” Assistant Director (Health) of Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter told BSS on Thursday noon.

The health officials said among the newly detected 261 COVID-19 patients 71 are in Khulna, 35 in Kushtia, 34 in Bagerhat, 33 in Jhenaidah, 29 in Jashore, 24 in Satkhira, 20 in Narail, seven in Chuadanga, six in Magura and two in Meherpur districts in the division.

They said the district-wise break-up of the COVID-19 patients now stood at 2,751 in Khulna, 850 in Kushtia, 834 in Jashore, 367 in Jhenaidah, 343 in Narail, 303 in Satkhira, 276 in Chuadanga, 267 in Bagerhat, 182 in Magura and 97 in Meherpur districts.

Dr Ferdousi said the whereabouts of the persons, who came in contact with COVID-19 patients, were brought to notice and they were asked to remain in home isolation so that the virus cannot help spread transmission further.

Meanwhile, a total of 2,230 have cured from coronavirus infections as 108 more people were discharged from the Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospitals after their recovery in all 10 districts of the division in the last 24 hours.

“The recovery rate among the total 6,269 coronavirus infected patients now stands at 35.57 percent in the division,” she said.

“Among the total 6,269 coronavirus infected persons, 691 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 2,230 have recovered and 114 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes in the division”, she said.

With the five more deaths the total number of fatalities now reached 114 in the division.

The district wise death toll recorded as 43 in Khulna, 19 in Kushtia, 14 in Jashore, seven in Narail, seven in Magura, six each in Jhenidah and Meherpur and five in Satkhira, four in Bagerhat and three in Chuadanga districts.

She said a total of 44,557 people were put in quarantines since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak in Khulna division.

Among the total quarantined people, 41,846 have so far been released and 2,711 are now remaining in home or institutional quarantines in the division.

After receiving a total of 1,21,753 pieces of personal protective equipment so far, 76,721 pieces of the same were distributed among the health service providers and 45,035 pieces are now in stock in the division.

“We have also received 5,895 masks and distributed 3,896 with 1,999 pieces in hand, got 1,09,511 hand gloves and distributed 97,967 with 11,544 pieces in stock and received 11,849 bottles of hexisol and distributed 9,406 with 2,443 bottles in stock,” she said.

Ferdousi specially urged the people in abiding by the health directives of the government to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 in the division.
