Coronavirus cases climb to 6,068 in Rangpur

The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases climbed to 6,068 in Rangpur division as 130 new patients were reported on Wednesday from two COVID-19 Laboratories at Rangpur and Dinajpur in the division.

Health officials said the 130 new patients were reported after diagnosing a total of 470 collected samples of suspected coronavirus patents from all eight districts of Rangpur division.

“With the report of 130 new patients, the total number of COVID-19 cases jumped to 6,068 in Rangpur division today,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS.

The district-wise break up of the total 6,068 patients currently stands at 1,670 in Rangpur, 312 in Panchagarh, 647 in Nilphamari, 374 in Lalmonirhat, 470 in Kurigram, 365 in Thakurgaon, 1,591 in Dinajpur and 639 Gaibandha of the division.

“Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients rose to 4,037 with the healing of 71 more people on Wednesday at the recovery rate of around 66.52 percent in the division,” Dr.

Siddique said.

The 4,037 recovered COVID-19 patients include 1,280 of Rangpur, 159 of Panchagarh, 575 of Nilphamari, 224 of Lalmonirhat, 246 of Kurigram, 243 of Thakurgaon, 980 of Dinajpur and 330 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said 451 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 201 others released in the division during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

Since the beginning, a total of 60,151 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 54,385 released and 5,766 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines in all eight districts of the division.

“A total of 39,721 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Monday, and of them, 6,068 were found COVID-19 positive with an infection rate of around 15.27 percent,” Dr. Khan said.

Two more deaths were reported on Monday from Gaibandha and Dinajpur raising the total number of fatalities to 107 with the casualty rate of around 1.76 percent in the division.

“Among the 107 deceased, 31 people died in Rangpur, 35 in Dinajpur, 12 in Gaibandha, nine in Nilphamari, six each in Kurigram and Thakurgaon, five in Panchagarh and three in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” Dr. Khan added.

Among the total 6,068 COVID-19 patients, 188 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 4,037 recovered patients and 107 deaths while 1,736 remaining in home isolations in the division.

Talking to BSS, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said a limited scale community transmission of the deadly virus continues at places in Rangpur division.

“We have put maximum efforts and are working shoulder-to-shoulder in a coordinated manner for preventing COVID-19 spread and providing proper health services to infected patients,” he said.

He put special emphasis on inspiring common people in abiding by the health directives in sacrificial animal markets before the Eid-ul-Azha festivity and everywhere to prevent further community transmission of COVID-19 infection.
