In Conversation With A Young Content Creator: Marjia Mimi
How you became a content creator?

I started my acting career in 2016 through Tv dramas, then in 2017 I made a shift towards making videos for YouTube.  After receiving enormous support from the viewers, in the later part of December 2019 I started creating content for Likee. For those who are still not familiar with the social application Likee, it's a popular short video creation and sharing platform.

Please tell us about your work routine and thinking process in terms of coming up with new different ideas for your videos

I always had a zeal for creating contents.
I am studying Law at East West University so I came to realise that to balance between my study and my passion I have to find a middle ground. YouTube and Likee gave me that platform. It is not that creating videos for these social platforms are less time consuming compare to other bigger platforms such as Tv Dramas or movies. Rather you have to prepare and execute all by yourself, which can be challenging sometimes. I guess that's one of the fun bits, that able to except the challenge and continue to perform. I try to get ideas for my contents from everyday life. I have and making different genres of videos. For examples, I have made videos on cooking, dancing, comedy acts and at the same time through my content I have tried to address issues like rape, racisms, sexual harassment. I am an all-out feminist so I always try to make sure that I can portray the social stereotypes and difficulties that women under go every day. Again at the same time I like to make entertainment videos. The demand for entertainment or rather I should say interesting contents is huge all over the globe. Creating content is a full time job, it is not that easy. Especially when you want to make a mark in these platforms and at the same time does not want to compromise with the quality of your videos. Whenever I come across an idea I try to write is down, and then decide how to proceed. I have received excellent support from my team who has helped me to shoot and edit. During the lockdown my mother has been my best support. She researched the trending videos on the internet and helped me with ideas and shoots.

What is your advice for young people like yourself who want to try their hand in content creation?

In Youtube right now my target is half a million to get half million viewers. In Likee I have 700 videos and about 7 million followers. This didn't happen in one day, one has to have new creative ideas to entertain the viewers. There are many videos in these social platforms where it's about ones ego against another. There are many roasting videos, ideas like racism and body shaming are used by some content creators. I think developing debates are always welcome but contents that might hurt the feelings of others should be avoided. Both the content creators and viewers of such videos should restrain themselves from doing so. Young people should opt for making contents which are balanced in quality and does not spread hatred. If anyone does not encourage you to peruse you passion, do not feel bad, follow you passion and better things will follow.

Please tell us about your future plan

I believe in multitasking. It is not that I will be practicing law or that if I will concentrate on one particular aspect. One thing is for sureaAfter completing my study I want to continue my passion as a content creator.
