An unprecedented degree of uncertainty has gripped the entire national football camp as a surprising total of 18 players out of 24 have been found COVID-19 positive.

Compulsory corona tests prior to the national booters’ joining the Gazipur training camp ahead of the FIFA and the Asia Cup qualifying matches has virtually brought an uneasy calm to the camp.

The one and a half dozen players were, however, reported COVID-19 positive in last two days.

According to the sources in the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), 24 players in total reported during the period of last two days. Of the total, 18 were found COVID-19 positive with Assistant Coach Masud Pervej Kaisar also being found coronavirus-infected.

The junior aoach along with eight players went to Gazipur, the venue of the national training camp, on Wednesday last even before receiving their COVID-19 test results.

Afterwards, test results of four players were found positive (late Wednesday). Later, the national football team management issued permission for the remaining eight players, who had negative results, to join the Gazipur camp.

But it was a big blow when the results of seven players out of those eight, who joined the national camp on the first day (Wednesday), had positive results coming from the BSMMU on Friday.

Therefore, a whopping total of 18 out of 24 players, including the seven on second day and four on the first day, are now suffering from the deadly COVID-19.

The players, who went on the first day to the camp before receiving the health screening results but later identified as infected or positive cases included Faisal Ahmed Fahim, Manik Hossain Mollah, Manzurur Rahman Manik, M Abdullah, Yasin Arafat, Biplu Ahmed and Mahbubur Rahman.
With this, only seven players are now left to report and go under COVID-19 screening.
