AL to form 8 divisional monitoring committees

The Awami League (AL) presidium today instructed the relevant party tiers to form eight divisional monitoring committees to strengthen the ruling party’s organizational activities across the country.

The instruction was given from a meeting of the AL presidium with party President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair at her official residence Ganabhaban here in the morning.

As per the directives of the Prime Minister, AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader revealed the information at a virtual briefing from his official residence in the city after the party’s presidium meeting.

He said along with AL joint general secretaries and organizing secretaries, party’s presidium members will also work for forming the committees. Members of AL Central Working Committee will be included in different committees, he added.

The AL general secretary also said that the secretariat members of the central working committee, who are yet to submit their respective subcommittees, have been asked to submit those within the next one week after consulting with their concerned chairmen.

Committees of the district and city units of AL, which did not hold council, should be formed to reform the party up to grassroots level, Quader said, adding but before that works of holding councils at ward, union and upazila levels should be completed.

He urged the AL upazila, district and city units and its associate bodies, who held the council earlier and yet to submit full-pledge committees, must submit their full-pledge committees within the next seven days.

The dedicated leaders, who sacrificed during bad times of the party, should be evaluated during forming different subcommittees, the AL general secretary said, adding no nepotism should be showed in this regards.

The aspirants, who want to contest in the elections of 61 union parishads, three district councils and nine upazila parishads declared by the Election Commission (EC), have to collect and submit party nomination papers from the party president’s Dhanmondi political office by September 20, Quader said, urging the party leaders and activists to strengthen organisational activities of the party in a limited scale maintaining the health guidelines.

He also urged for celebrating the 74th birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on September 28 through holding milad and doa mahfils and discussions at all levels in a limited scale maintaining the health guidelines.

The AL general secretary also requested for arranging special prayers at mosques, temples, churches and pagodas across the country to mark the day.
