Nearly 75pc Covid-19 patients recover in Bangladesh

About three-fourths of the confirmed Covid-19 patients in Bangladesh have recovered so far, the health authorities said Friday.

With 1,383 newly detected cases in the past 24 hours until morning, the caseload stood at 356,767. Twenty-one new deaths have been reported, pushing up the fatalities to 5,093.

A handout from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said 267,024 patients have so far recovered – 1,932 in the past 24 hours.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18.

In The caseload reached 300,000 on August 26.

The recovery rate rose to 74.85 percent while mortality rate was 1.43 percent.

At 103 RT-PCR labs, 1,888,010 tests have been conducted, including 12,473 new tests.

Of the total, 18.9 percent turned out to be positive. Today’s infection rate was 11.09 percent.

Currently, there are 84,650 active cases in the country.

Bangladesh is seeing 2094.85 infections, 1,567.90 recoveries per million while 29.9 are dying against the same number.

Of the total fatalities, 3,949 are men and 1,144 women.

So far, 2,523 have died in Dhaka division, 1,052 in Chattogram, 336 in Rajshahi, 428 in Khulna, 186 in Barishal, 224 in Sylhet, 237 in Rangpur and 107 in Mymensingh.

Across the country, 15,911 people are now in isolation and 44,858 in quarantine.

Global Situation

The number of globally confirmed coronavirus cases surpassed 32 million on Friday, according to the Centre for System Science and Engineering of Johns Hopkins University (JHU).

The global case count reached 32,136,855 with a total of 981,754 deaths and the CSSE data showed.

The United States reported the most cases and deaths which stood at 6,976,215 and 202,762 respectively.

India recorded 5,732,518 cases while Brazil followed with 4,657,702 cases and 139,808 deaths, the world's second largest death toll.

India has so far reported 91,141 deaths.

Coronavirus cases were first reported in China in December last year. The World Health Organization declared it a pandemic in March.
