COVID-19 cases hit 21,772 in Khulna division, 19,229 cured

With detection of 72 more positive cases in all ten districts of the division on Monday, the total number of COVID-19 infected patients now reached 21,772 as 19,229 have been cured from the lethal virus infection.

“The total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 21,772 with 72 new positive cases reported after testing 191 samples at the Khulna Medical College Laboratory and others two respective COVID-19 laboratories in Khulna division in the last 24 hours till today’s noon,” Assistant Director (Health) for Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter told BSS.

The recovery rate now stands at 88.31 percent, she added.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 28 were detected in Khulna, followed by nine each in Jashore and Kushtia, six in Meherpur, five in Chuadanga, four in Jhenidah, three each in Bagerhat, Magura and Narail and two in Satkhira in the division.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the patients now stands at 6,357 in Khulna, 3,876 in Jashore, 3,265 in Kushtia, 1,918 in Jhenaidah, 1,423 in Chuadanga, 1,331 in Narail, 1,095 in Satkhira, 989 in Bagerhat, 907 in Magura and 611 in Meherpur.

“Among the total 21,772 coronavirus infected persons, 2,339 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 19,229 have recovered and 379 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes in the division,” Dr.

Ferdousi said.
Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said the number of total fatalities stands at 379 in the division with one more death reported in Jashore on Monday.

The district-wise break-up of the fatalities stands at 96 in Khulna, 71 in Kushtia, 46 in Jashore, 33 in Jhenaidah, 32 in Chuadanga, , 30 in Satkhira, 23 in Bagerhat, 20 in Narail,15 in Meherpur and 13 in Magura districts.

“The average casualty rate is over 1.74 percent in the division,” she mentioned.

On the other hand, a total of 72 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while others 175 were released in all ten districts of the division in the last 24 hours till 12 noon today.

A total of 59,814 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 58,362 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period and 2,339 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantine in the division.
