It came as a big relief for all the Soumitra Chatterjee fans as he tested negative for coronavirus (Covid-19).

On Wednesday evening, the medical team treating him revealed that his condition has marginally improved.

The iconic actor had recently tested positive for coronavirus and was rushed to a private hospital in India's  Kolkata as his health deteriorated.

The doctors claimed he has no fever since Tuesday evening but still remains in an “acute confusional state.” However, he is responding well to verbal commands and is also opening his eyes.

The medical report of Soumitra Chatterjee states that his involuntary movements and jittery condition still persists. It also added his kidney, liver function, ammonia level in the blood, the infective mucus are slowly normalising or are almost normal. The cardiac function, blood pressure, respiration and urine output are improving.

“We had to give him a little bit of oxygen support and at times intermittent BiPAB support as a precautionary measure. He is doing quite well on that part too,” the doctors have said.

On Tuesday, a picture of him lying in his hospital bed went viral on Tuesday and it left his daughter Poulami Bose saddened and pained, and she urged all to give the 85-year-old actor the "privacy and respect that he so richly deserves". Not only the photo but rumours of his death and his medical bulletin went public and it shocked the family.

"Amidst this time of huge anxiety over the health of my COVID-afflicted father, we are extremely upset, sad and heartbroken to find unauthorized pictures of him from the ICU and his medical bulletin being shared widely on social media," Poulami Bose, Soumitra’s daughter shared on her Facebook page.

The legendary Indian actor had to be admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata on October 6 after he tested positive for Covid-19.
