BCB’s new talent hunt process in progress

BCB’s new talent hunt process in progress

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been working with an alternative mechanism to hunt the budding and potential young cricketers from the grassroots in order to form age-group cricket teams.

The BCB has taken the mechanism to cull the potential and young talented cricketers for their lower-level cricket teams as they can’t go to the fields in the districts across the country amid the concern of the novel Covid-19.

As part of their activities, the games development committee of the BCB is scheduled to collect the video of the budding players to scrutinize the skills and techniques of the cricketers along with the other necessary ingredients.

Therefore, they will call the selected players to physically attend the medical test where their age will be verified. As part of the verification, they will soon call four players at a time to attend the age-verification test which will be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

BCB Games Development Executive Kamrul Islam admitted the matter and said that they will gradually search all the 64 districts for talented cricketers through video footages.

“We’ve already launched a pilot project with Moulvibazar district.

We’ve collected the video sample of the cricketers from the district and October 5 was the last date of video collection of the district,” Kamul Islam said.

“Now we’ll shortlist them as we can’t organise a national competition. In this way, we’ll gradually cover all the districts,” Islam told The Independent.

Earlier, BCB used to shortlist 35-40 players by whittling down from 500-700 players to form the national competition. Since then, they’d pick a string of players from the tournament and form a comprehensive squad. Later they whittle them down to the extended squad. In this way, they would form BCB-U14, BCB-B16 and BCB-U18 teams.

As the coronavirus situation has not yet come down to normalcy in Bangladesh, so a different headhunting process is in place for teaming up age-group cricket. Initially they began their talent hunt with the BCB-U16 to form the U17 Cricket Team.

Thus they will work for the formation of the U-14 and the U-18 teams respectively. They will arrange a three-team Challenge Series of Under-18 players to form the Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket team.

The BCB uploaded a video message on its verified Facebook page where the experienced national players — Mushfiqur Rahim and Tamim Iqbal Khan — have given their message for the young cricketers so that they all spontaneously participate here.

A demo has already been made with proper indication and uploaded it on social media where it has been shown how to make a video and upload it and where to send it.

The participants have to make a video to take part in the primary selection of U-14, U-16 and U-18 teams from each district and Dhaka metropolitan. They have to send it to a specific WhatsApp age-group or personal WhatsApp number or district and divisional cricket coach.
