Bangladesh Archery Federation (BAF) postponed national championship in December due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Kazi Rajib Ahmed Chapal, the general secretary of the BAF informed the Independent on Saturday that they failed to execute plans on the domestic and international programmes this year due to coronavirus trouble.

Chapal, the founding general secretary of the federation, said, “In fact, targeting to organize the national championship we started a residential camp with 25 archers including eight to 10 females at the Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master Stadium under the German coach Martin Frederick.”

“In this uncertainty of Covid-19 situation whenever it would turn good enough to start our usual life, so until January we have no plan to organize any domestic or international competitions,” said Chapal.

“The World Archery or Asian Archery Federations also postponed all of their schedules in 2020. Until further development there is no possibility to organize any competition this year as Covid-19 pandemic is yet to contain,” said Chapal.

Meanwhile, Ruman Shana, who became a national hero and the poster boy of Bangladesh archery claiming several inspirational feats for the country in the international archery, created history in country’s sports arena securing a spot for the Tokyo Olympics 2020 (deferred for 2021 due to outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic).

Rumon Shana, to whom archery is one of the most important disciplines in Bangladesh right now and it is the lone event from that country expects medal in the Olympic.

While talking  to The Independent on Saturday he said that the coronavirus epidemic hampered a lot of their usual life style.
But the most celebrity athletes of the country said, “It is really a big setback for us, as for a long interval we were almost out of activities.”

“Now, we came to the camp and have been on regular practice and working to retain the fitness,” said Ruman Shana, who is under the safety and wellbeing and as well as all his team-mates are under protection in the camp in Tongi.

“We are very much cautious about the situation and will practice in the camp with hawk-eight eagerness,” Ruman happy with the safety measure.
Replying to a query Ruman said, “It will take overall three to four months to retain the fitness and accuracy, as we were fully out of games.”

Ruman Shana informed that they have a schedule to start the international competition the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF) competition in February 2021.

“We will have a tight schedule in next year if the situation would normal then we will start our game with the ISSF, then there would be three World Cups – stage 1, stage 11 and stage 111 in 2021 with first one in Bangladesh and the world cups will take place in China, German and Guatemala,” said Ruman.
