President M Abdul Hamid today stressed on enhancing mutual cooperation between Bangladesh and the Philippines in the field of nursing and agriculture as the outgoing ambassador of the Philippines to Bangladesh, Vicente Vivencio T Bandillo, called on him at Bangabhaban here today.

Referring to the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Bangladesh and the Philippines on enhancing cooperation in the field of nursing and agriculture, the President said, “It will further enhance mutual cooperation and benefit both the countries in the days to come,”

During the meeting, the President said Bangladesh is maintaining an excellent relation with the Philippines while the outgoing envoy thanked him for his overall cooperation during his tenure in Bangladesh, President’s press secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS.

He recalled the support of the Philippines in different crucial issues and said, “The Philippines is one of the first countries to recognize Bangladesh after independence. The Philippines has also played a significant role in getting Bangladesh’s membership in the United Nations.”

About the Rohingya repatriation issue, Abdul Hamid hoped that the Philippines would play a strong role in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) for Bangladesh and repatriation of Rohingyas to their Rakhine state homeland.

The President said Bangladesh produces a variety of world class products including readymade garments (RMG) and medicines, and the prices of these products are also comparatively cheaper than other countries.

“The Philippines can get benefit by importing all these products,” the President added.

He thanked the Philippine government for its assistance in recovering the lost money from Bangladesh Bank and hoped that the Philippines government would continue its cooperation in recovering the remaining lost funds.
