Miss Universe 2020 picks top 50 contestants for main round

Top 50 contestants have been selected for the main round of ‘Flora Bank Miss Universe 2020’, the Bangladeshi part of the most prestigious beauty pageant in the world ‘Miss Universe’, said a press release.  

These 50 contestants will be involved in different activities of the society. In a statement on Wednesday, Miss Universe Bangladesh organisers informed that the competition saw a total of 9256 registrations this year.

However, after initial selection about 500 participants received calls for the audition round. Top 50 contestants were selected through a live audition on February 11 at home, while a virtual audition was held on February 13 for the Bangladeshi contestants staying abroad. The contestants were picked up through an assessment process that involved beauty, education, talent, analytical power and other selective indicators.  

Of the top 50, the best 20 contestants will go through a rigorous grooming session from February 20. Mentors will prepare them for the final round focusing on different skill developments. 

Bangladeshi Flag Girl Priota Iftekhar (Miss Culture Worldwide 2018), fashion designer Shahrukh Amin, Fashion Editor of IceToday magazine Gautam Saha and 2019 Miss Universe Bangladesh first runner-up Alisha Islam were the judges of the audition round.  

According to the organisers, the winners of this beauty pageant will aim to contribute to various fields of social development from their social responsibility. 

Shafiqul Islam, National Director of ‘Miss Universe Bangladesh’, said “The number of talented participants increased this year compared to previous edition.”

He also said that the platform builds confidence among the women which helps them to believe in their ability to stand on the international stage and present their own culture. The presence of the guardians of the contestants on the day of the audition this year also proved that the interest of the people in this kind of platform is increasing day by day.

Singer and actor Tahsan Rahman Khan, model and actress Bidya Sinha Meem will be the Judges of the final round of Miss Universe Bangladesh 2020. The grand finale will be held on March 20 in Dhaka, according to the organisers.

Being the country's ambassador on a global stage, the winner of the ‘Flora Bank Miss Universe 2020’ will be the representative of Bangladesh in the 69th Miss Universe 2020 pageant to be held in the United States in May this year. 
The title sponsor of ‘Miss Universe Bangladesh 200’ is Flora Bank while co-sponsor is Rejuva, co-partner is RTV, makeover partner is Persona, public relations partner is Northbrook Consultants Ltd and hospitality partner is Radisson Blu Dhaka.
