BGB-Myanmar police talks begin

The border conference between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Myanmar Police Force (MPF) started in Myanmar's city Nay Pyi Taw yesterday, reports UNB. The formal talks between the two border security forces started at around 1:00 pm on Tuesday, according to a message received here Tuesday evening.

BGB Director General (DG) Maj Gen Abul Hossain has been leading a 14-member Bangladesh delegation while his counter part Myanmar's Chief of Police General Staff of Myanmar Police Force Police Brigadier General Myo Swe Wing led 15-member Myanmar delegation at the conference.

Various security issues, including illegal trespass into Bangladesh territory, indiscriminate firing on the bordering areas, repeated violation of land and air spaces, movement of military along Myanmar border, installing mines in the border areas and removing those, smuggling of drugs and goods, especially yaba pills, have been given importance in the discussion from the Bangladesh side.

Besides, exchanging mutual assistances including holding regular flag meetings, local commander level meetings and joint patrol and joint surveillance along the Naf River and border are expected to be emphasized in the border talks.
