Raphael Odoyin struck twice and set one for Zahed Pervej Chowdhury, as Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club defeated Mohammedan Sporting Club by 3-0 in their first match of the Saif Power Bbattery Bangladesh Premier League football second-leg yesterday.

Held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, Jamal downed the high flying Mohammedan, who were unbeaten in the last six matches of the first leg inflicting the clear margin defeat.

Both the sides played without their head coaches while Mohammedan’s coach has been absent from last few matches of the first leg and Jamal’s coach Afusi was also absent on the day.

However, the match was onset with Mohammedan began with some good tempo playing with full offensive approach and put Sheikh Jamal under enormous pressure to force to be defensive.

Specially, up to 25 minutes in which way Mohammedan were playing, it looked that Jamal were just an ordinary opponents, as their defense line was in hectic situation to deal with the series of strong attacks.

It seemed that the absence of regular coach Joseph Afusi, Jamal could not looked in their rhythm but under goalkeeper coach Mosarraf Badal, after getting rid of the long time pressure gradually came out with counter attacks.

Jamal initiated the threat on 29th minute to take lead against the flow of the game from their first attack and once again the vulnerability of a Mohammedan defense playing with without coach, seemed susceptible to Badal’s counterattacking pace had been highlighted. As a high ball from the Jamal defense dropped on an open space and Raphael beat his markers with a super sprint but his header over the advancing keeper narrowly missed the side post.

The title contenders, who finished the first phase on second position along with the Abahani Limited, bounced back strongly with much vaunted long pass and proving very effective with taking lead on 39th minute through Raphael.

Raphael, who was always very swift to chase his challengers, opened the scoring on 49th minute when he rushed into the box and made a cool finish when Mohamemdan goalkeeper failed to properly grip a Javed Khan shot (1-0).

Raphael doubled the margin just 10 minutes later and this time it was a neat header on a Zajid Pervej Chowdhury corner when the Nigerian jumped higher than the Mohammedan defense on 49th (2-0).

Jamal became more aggressive to extend the tally and made the tally 3-0 through Zahid Pervej, the veteran forward made the tally 3-0 in a style when he slammed his low diving header on a Raphael cut-back.

Mohammedan, who finished the first leg on fifth after surviving from a critical position when they were on threat of relegation but a miracle bounced back to win three matches in a row and three draws jumped from the bottom side to upstairs.
