Three TVs to broadcast FIFA WC matches live

100-day count down begins
Sports Reporter

State-owned Bangladesh Television along with two private satellite television channels- Maasranga Television and Nagorik Television- will telecast all the matches of the upcoming FIFA World Cup-Russia 2018 to spread the excitement of the World Cup football in the football-obsessed nation.

A consortium of Jadoo Media Limited, Mediacom Limited, K-Sports and ZIRCON bought the broadcasting rights of the extravaganza event from the world football apex body.

Anjan Chowdhury Pintu, managing director of the consortium, revealed all to media at a ‘kickoff meet’ at a local city hotel yesterday. Incidentally the announcement came as the 100-day countdown of the FIFA World Cup began yesterday.

Pintu, who is also a director of Abahani Limited,  in his welcome speech also said, “We don’t know at what time Bangladesh will play in FIFA World Cup.

But we dream our beloved country will also play in the greatest show of the planet one day. I can surely tell that the zeal of the World Cup in Bangladesh is more than any other country across the globe.”

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, State Minister for Youth and Sports Dr Biren Sikder, Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh MP, Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) president Kazi Mohammad Salahuddin, BFF senior vice president Abdus Salam Murshidy, Awami League sports secretary Harun-ur-Rashid, BFF women’s football wings chairman Mahfuza Akhtar Kiron and Jadoo Media Limited CEO Abdun Noor Tushar were also present.

“Even though cricket drew the attention of the bulk of the people of the country, football is universal game. By the instrumentality of the four local organisations, the 16 crore people of the Bangladesh could watch and enjoy the football matches of the World Cup,” said Hasanul Haq Inu.

The ‘kickoff meet’ was started with a media evolution in FIFA World Cup. Then a boy with Bangladesh national flag appeared in the stage and waved it before the clap-filled audition. He was followed by 23 children with 32 different nations’ flags, who will play the showpiece event splitting into eight groups in the 12 venues of the 11 hosts’ cities of Russia.

Fagerli Brothers, hailed from Norway, displayed their enthralling football freestyles at the fag end of the hour-long programme.
