369 women return home facing problems abroad

Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam B.Sc. yesterday said that some 55,149 women workers went to abroad in 2018, reports UNB.

Responding to a tabled question from Jatiya Party MP Selim Uddin in the Parliament, the minister also said that 369 women workers returned to the country this year facing various types of problems in abroad.

Replying to a question from Sanjida Khanom he said that currently Bangladeshi workers are working in 165 countries across the globe.

He mentioned that in 2017 some 10,08,525 workers have been sent to various countries while 47,027 more have gone abroad for wage earning till May this year.

The minister mentioned that 30,94,848 persons got jobs in various countries across the globe since January 1, 2014. Responding to another question from ruling party MP Nizam Uddin Hazari, Nurul Islam BSc said that 5,035 Bangladeshi workers are in jails in various countries.

Of the total number, 976 are in Saudi Arabia, 851 in UAE, 810 in Malaysia, 478 in Oman, 85 in Jordan, 29 in Libya, five in Thailand, six in Mauritius, 87 in Singapore, 27 in Japan, 137 in Italy, 91 in Hong Kong, 23 in South Korea, 97 in Iraq, 384 in Kuwait, 146 in Greece, 438 in Bahrain, 10 in Brunei, 113 in the Maldives, four in Egypt, and 238 in Qatar.
