Awami League yesterday nominated AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Badar Uddin Kamran and Serniabat Sadeq Abdullah to contest Rajshahi, Sylhet Barishal city corporation elections respectively, reports UNB. The ruling party finalised the nominations at a joint meeting of Awami League Parliamentary Board and Awami League Nomination Board for local government elections.

The meeting, presided over by Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, nominated MA Matin for contesting the Kurigram by-election.

The meeting, held at the Prime Minister's official residence Ganobhaban, also finalised ruling party candidates for 10 union elections, three upazila elections and five municipality elections.

A total of 12 mayoral aspirants of the ruling party collected party nomination forms from party president's Dhanmondi office, while 12 BNP aspirants bought party forms

Both BNP and AL have decided to contest the elections under their alliance banners, and give nomination to a single candidate for each of the city corporation elections.

As per the election schedule, the deadline for the submission of nomination papers is June 28, while the dates for scrutinising those are July 1 and July 2, and the last date for the withdrawal of candidature is July 9.
