Today, as part of the ongoing 11-day ‘Ganga-Jamuna Cultural Festival 2018’, one Indian and two local plays to be staged at three different venues of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital. DhakaLive has news that local theatre troupe Desh Natak will stage its much-acclaimed production titled ‘Nityapuran’ today evening at the Experimental Theatre Hall of BSA while popular local theatre troupe Swapnadal and Kolkata-based theatre troupe Berhampore Kalakshetra will stage their productions ‘Chitrangada’ and ‘Tasher Desh’ at the BSA’s National Theatre Hall and Studio Theatre Hall respectively.

Adapted by Masum Reza, the play ‘Nityapuran’ or ‘The Eternal Meeting’ is a tragic story about an unsuccessful hero.

Ekalavya wants to learn archery under the gurukul of Guru Dronacharya, who rejects him. The irony here is that Ekalavya still manages to become an admirable archer.

On the other hand, ‘Chitrangada’ is the 11th production of Swapnadal, written by Nobel Laureate Poet Rabindranath Tagore and directed by Zahid Repon. The script of the play is an adaptation of a tale in the great eastern epic ‘Mahabharata’, but with new and modern interpretations.

Besides, written by Rabindranath Tagore, ‘Tasher Desh’ is a dance drama inspired by children’s story ‘Alice in Wonderland’. The play revolves around a prince, who is in exile with his mother. A merchant’s son is his only friend. The friends set upon an expedition in order to be free from their monotonous life. However, sailing through the high seas, their ship gets wrecked and they came into the land of cards (Tasher Desh). l
