Mosaddek Hossian’s dazzling performance with both bat and ball secured Bangladesh Under-23 a spot in the semifinals of ACC Emerging Teams Asia cup 2018 after winning their last group stage match against Pakistan Under-23 at the National Stadium in Karachi yesterday.

Winning the toss, Bangladesh opted to bat first and put together a hefty 309 runs in 50 overs for Pakistan to chase, losing five wickets in the process.

After a century in the previous match, Mosaddek Hossain again played a brilliant knock of 85 of 74 balls for Bangladesh. Zakir Hasan and Mizanur Rahman opened the batting for Bangladesh and were playing with ease before Mizanur Rahman got out for 25 of 44 balls.

Zakir Hasan then built a partnership of 103 runs with Nazmul Hossain Shanto to steer Bangladesh’s innings to a good total. Zakir made 69 runs off 69 balls while Nazmul once again missed the half century mark scoring 49 of 54 balls. Later, Yasir Ali also played hasty innings of 56 runs off 46 balls. Riding on the performances of Mosaddek, Zakir, Nazmul and Yasir, Bangladesh ended their innings at 309 runs. Khushdil Shah scalped three while Muhammad Musa took two wickets for Pakistan.

Coming onto bat, Pakistan lost two of their crucial wickets of opener Ali Imran and Saud Shakeel very early and started to drift apart from the match, aspiring off-spinner Nayeem Hasan took the both wickets for Bangladesh. Zeeshan Malik and Mohammad Rizwan tried to bounce Pakistan back into the match by building a fourth wicket partnership of 88 runs. Shoriful Islam broke the rising partnership by taking the wicket of Zeeshan Malik, who scored 47 runs of 67 balls. Mosaddek Hossain then claimed the wicket of Mohammad Rizwan. Khushdil Shah top scored for Pakistan scoring 61 facing 58 balls. Mosaddek Hossain and Shafiul Islam both took two wickets while Nayeem Hasan claimed three wickets for Bangladesh.

The match between Hong Kong and United Arab Emirates was abandoned due to rain and was declared as draw.
