Rahmatganj MFS shattered the high hopes of Nofel to play in the quarterfinal of the Walton Independence Cup football tournament when the Old Dhaka outfit just blanked the newcomers by 3-0 to make a room in the last eight.

Held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, Rakibul Islam led Rahmatganj at the late hour of the first half while Ciyo Zunapio scored a couple of beautiful goals in the second half in the Old Dhaka outfit dominance match.

To qualify in the quarterfinal Rahmatganj was in must win situation when they managed only one point after a goalless draw with Mohammedan Sporting Club and Nofel needed a draw as they brightened their chance after a stunning victory against Mohammedan.

Meanwhile, Chittagong Abahani Limited remained unbeaten in their group-leg matches when they finished the last match in a 0-0 draw against Mohamemdan Sporting Club in the day’s second match..

The draw meant, Mohammedan Sporting Club were eliminated from the group stage when they could manage two draw and suffered a defeat.

Chittagong Abahani Limited, who ensured their quarterfinal place after winning their first two matches maintained though unbeaten run not looked impressive on the day against Mohammedan, who desperately needed a big margin win to move into the quarterfinal.

For Mohammedan Sporting Club, it was third consecutive elimination from the group stage when they were eliminated from the Independence Cup football tournament (2017-18) early of this year, then they could not survive from the group leg of the Walton Federation Cup.

However, in the battle of promotion and the elimination and the campaigns to win, both clubs played with far more pressing to progress in the quarterfinal.

So far that has been desperately building confidence in the come around to demonstrating their best performances and finally Rahmatganj made their mission success with winning by 3-0 and Nofel eliminated from the group stage.

Rahamtganj went ahead on 37th minute which was an ultimate outcome of a strong pressure when a left flank corner kick was not fully cleared and Rakibul got possession inside the area and netted the ball with a gentle volley from the goal-mouth melee (1-0).

Rahmatganj had to wait to double the advantage for 27 minutes, as the Nofel defense dealt well with all the stalwart attacks but Ciyo Zunapio, who could not shine in the Federation Cup, headed home a Rakibul corner on 64th minute (2-0).

Zunapio, the forward from Congo, scored his second and the third for Rahmatganj on 80th minute and it was a piece of super skills when the tall man entered into the danger area with a solo effort and fired home a right footer with an angular shot (3-0).
