A special economic zone will be set-up in Dohar-Nawabganj area for the development of the region if elected, said Awami League candidate for Dhaka-1 constituency Salman F Rahman yesterday. Speaking at an election rally in Komorganj area of Nawabganj yesterday, Salman F Rahman, also the vice-chairman of Beximco Group, said that special emphasis will be put on economic emancipation of the people in this region if the Awami League is elected to power in the upcoming general election slated for December 30.

The economic zone will create employment and increase the price of land in the area, he said.

The AL candidate attended a number of rallies at various places in his electoral area of Dohar-Nawabganj, where he was welcomed by huge cheering crowds.

Salman F Rahman urged the people to re-elect ‘boat’ to power and pledged to create employment for thousands of youths in the area. He also presented various plans to develop roads and communications infrastructures in the constituency.

Earlier, he joined the Christmas programme at Nawabganj Christian Palli and exchanged pleasantries with the community people. He lauded the role of the Christian community people to in the area for various educational and welfare activities. He also said that people of all religious faiths can live harmoniously when the Awami League remains in power and urged all to vote for Sheikh Hasina and Awami League’s election symbol ‘boat’.
